Pippi Longstocking

Astrid Lindgren was a Swedish author born in 1907 in Vimmerby, Sweden, best known for her iconic children's books featuring characters like Pippi Longstocking, Emil of Lönneberga, and the children of Bullerby. She worked as a journalist and secretary before becoming a full-time writer, publishing over 70 books that have sold more than 165 million copies worldwide and been translated into over 100 languages. Lindgren was a passionate advocate for children's rights, animal welfare, and non-violence, influencing Swedish laws including bans on corporal punishment and improved animal protections; she died in 2002 in Stockholm.
