About the Author

Jorge Edwards Valdés (1931–2023) was a Chilean novelist, journalist, and diplomat best known for his memoir Persona non grata, recounting his brief tenure as ambassador to Cuba under Salvador Allende, which criticized the Castro regime and brought him international fame. He authored numerous novels including El peso de la noche and La Casa de Dostoievsky, worked as a literary critic, and held diplomatic posts such as ambassador to UNESCO and France.
