About the Author

Odell Shepard (1884–1967) was an American poet, biographer, professor, and politician who served as Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut from 1941 to 1943. He is best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning biography Pedlar's Progress: The Life of Bronson Alcott (1937), along with works like The Harvest of a Quiet Eye and editing Thoreau's journals. A long-time English professor at Trinity College, he also received the Golden Rose Award for poetry.
