About the Author

Roddy Doyle (born 1958) is an Irish novelist, dramatist, and screenwriter best known for the Barrytown Trilogy—The Commitments (1987), The Snapper (1990), and The Van (1991)—which were adapted into successful films, and for winning the 1993 Booker Prize for Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha. His works, often set in working-class Dublin, feature heavy dialogue in Irish English dialect and explore family life, social issues, and Irish history. After teaching English and geography, he became a full-time writer in 1993.
