Ruth StoneAmerican
Ruth Stone (1915–2011) was an American poet born in Roanoke, Virginia. After her second husband, poet Walter Stone, died by suicide in 1959, she raised three daughters while teaching at various universities and publishing 13 books of poetry, gaining late-life acclaim including the National Book Critics Circle Award for Ordinary Words (1999) and the National Book Award for In the Next Galaxy (2002).
