Carl Spitteler (1845-1924) was a Swiss poet and writer born in Liestal, Switzerland, who studied law and theology but pursued literature, working as a tutor, teacher, and journalist. He is best known for his epic poem Olympian Spring (1900-1905), for which he received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1919, along with other notable works like Prometheus and Epimetheus and the novel Imago.
