About This Book
A sweeping intellectual history of xenophobia—fear and hatred of the stranger—from ancient philosophy through the Enlightenment, the age of empire, the Holocaust, and the contemporary resurgence of nationalist hostility to immigrants and outsiders. Jeremy Dauber argues that understanding xenophobia's deep roots is essential to resisting it. Winner of the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for Nonfiction.
