Elizabeth Peters was the pseudonym of American author Barbara Mertz (1927-2013), an Egyptologist renowned for her mystery novels, particularly the 20-book Amelia Peabody historical mystery series featuring a Victorian-era Egyptologist. She won Agatha Awards for Best Novel (Naked Once More, 1990) and Best Non-fiction (Amelia Peabody's Egypt, 2003), received multiple nominations, and was named a Mystery Writers of America Grand Master in 1998.
