About the Author
Jaroslav Seifert (1901-1986) was a Czech poet, journalist, and writer, best known as a pioneer of modernist poetry in Czechoslovakia and the 1984 Nobel Prize in Literature winner "for his poetry which endowed with freshness, sensuality and rich inventiveness." Born in Prague, he debuted with the poetry collection Město v slzách in 1921, authored over 30 volumes blending lyricism, humanity, and critiques of totalitarianism, and signed Charter 77 protesting communist rule.
