Miss Hickory

Carolyn Sherwin Bailey (1875-1961) was an American children's author best known for her Newbery Medal-winning novel Miss Hickory (1947), along with other notable works such as The Little Rabbit Who Wanted Red Wings (1945) and historical children's stories like Boys and Girls of Colonial Days (1917) and Hero Stories (1919). Born in Hoosick Falls, New York, she graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University, and studied at the Montessori School in Rome, contributing significantly to children's literature through imaginative storytelling and educational books on arts, crafts, and storytelling techniques.
