David Adams Richards (born 1950) is a Canadian novelist, essayist, screenwriter, and poet best known for his Miramichi trilogy (Nights Below Station Street, Evening Snow Will Bring Such Peace, For Those Who Hunt the Wounded Down) and novels like Mercy Among the Children. He has won the Governor General's Literary Award twice (1988 for fiction, 1998 for non-fiction), the Giller Prize (2000), two Gemini Awards for screenwriting, and other honors including the Alden Nowlan Award and Canada-Australia Literary Prize. Appointed to the Canadian Senate in 2017, he retired in 2025 upon turning 75 and continues writing.com
