Washington (born 1951) is an American author and medical ethicist best known for her book Medical Apartheid: The Dark History of Medical Experimentation on Black Americans from Colonial Times to the Present (2007), which won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction, as well as A Terrible Thing to Waste: Environmental Racism and Its Assault on the American Mind (2019) and Carte Blanche: The Erosion of Informed Consent in Medical Research (2021).
