About the Author

Suketu MehtaAmerican

Suketu Mehta was born in 1963 in Kolkata, India, to Gujarati parents, and raised partly in Mumbai before his family immigrated to New York City in 1977. A graduate of New York University and the Iowa Writers' Workshop, he is an associate professor of journalism at NYU and author of acclaimed nonfiction works exploring urban life and migration. His seminal book Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found (2004) won the Kiriyama Prize and was a Pulitzer finalist, establishing him as a leading voice in narrative nonfiction.
