About the Author

Scott McPherson (1959–1992) was an American playwright born in Columbus, Ohio, who became one of the first openly gay playwrights during the AIDS crisis. He is best known for his play Marvin's Room, which premiered at the Goodman Theatre in 1990, won multiple awards including the Drama Desk Award, and was adapted into a 1996 film. McPherson also acted in Chicago theater and drew from personal experiences caring for ill family and his partner before dying of AIDS-related complications at age 33.
