Russell A. Freedman (1929–2018) was an American biographer and author of nearly 50 books primarily for young readers, best known for his 1988 Newbery Medal-winning Lincoln: A Photobiography. Born in San Francisco, California, he worked as a reporter for the Associated Press and in advertising before becoming a full-time writer following his debut book Teenagers Who Made History in 1961.
