About the Author

Jacques Laurent (1919-2000) was a French writer, journalist, and filmmaker best known for his historical novels under the pen name Cecil Saint-Laurent, including Caroline Chérie (Darling Caroline) and La Vie Extraordinaire de Lola Montes, which inspired Max Ophüls's film Lola Montès. He won the prestigious Prix Goncourt in 1971 for Les Bêtises and was elected to the Académie française in 1986.
