About the Author
Jean CarrièreFrench
Jean Carrière (1928-2005) was a French novelist born in Nîmes, known for his evocative depictions of the Cévennes region, who began his writing career after working as secretary to Jean Giono and as a music critic and literary columnist. He published around twenty novels, including Retour à Uzès (1967, Prix Lucien-Tisserant), La Caverne des pestiférés (1978-1979), and Les Années sauvages (1986), while avoiding Paris literary circles after being labeled a regionalist.
