About the Author

René-Jean Clot (1913–1997) was a French painter and novelist born in Algiers. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Algiers and published numerous novels, with notable works including L'Enfant halluciné, which won the 1987 Prix Renaudot, and Le Poil de la bête, recipient of the 1951 Prix des Deux Magots. He corresponded with Albert Camus and was recognized for his contributions to French literature and art.
