About the Author

Graziella \"Lalla\" Romano (1906-2001) was an Italian novelist, poet, artist, and journalist born in Demonte and who died in Milan. She is best known for her autobiographical novels such as Le parole tra noi leggere, winner of the prestigious Strega Prize in 1969, and other notable works including Tetto Murato (translated as A Silence Shared) and Nei mari estremi (In Farthest Seas). Initially trained as a painter and influenced by Cesare Pavese, she transitioned to writing after WWII, drawing from personal and family experiences.
