Le Jardin des Dieux

Edmond Gojon (1886–1935) was a French poet and writer born in Philippeville (now Skikda), Algeria, who founded the magazine L’Essor in Algiers in 1903 and published parnassianist and symbolist poetry collections, with his first work noticed by José-Maria de Heredia. He achieved major recognition with Le Jardin des dieux, awarded the Prix Femina in 1920, later wrote prose celebrating French Algeria such as En Algérie avec la France, and returned to poetry with Le Marchand de nuages (Prix Artigue of the Académie française, 1932) and L’Empire de Cérès (1933); he also adapted Émile Zola's J'accuse…! for Abel Gance's 1919 film.
