About the Author

Charles Derennes (1882-1930) was a prolific French novelist, poet, essayist, and literary critic who published over fifty books in his 25-year career, known for his tender portrayals of animals in the Bestiaire sentimental series and early science fiction like Le Peuple du Pôle. He won the prestigious Prix Femina in 1924 for Émile et les autres and was appointed a knight of the Legion of Honour in 1925.
