He won the 2016 Newbery Medal for *Last Stop on Market Street*, illustrated by Christian Robinson. He has written numerous young adult novels exploring themes of identity, class, and ambition, including *Mexican WhiteBoy* and *We Were Here*.
Christian Robinson is an American author and illustrator of children's books born in Los Angeles. He illustrated Matt de la Peña's *Last Stop on Market Street*, which won the 2016 Newbery Medal and received a Caldecott Honor for his illustrations in the same year.
