Las hogueras

Concha Alós (1926-2011) was a Spanish novelist renowned for her neorealistic works addressing social injustice, particularly the victimization of women under Francoism. She achieved major success by winning the prestigious Premio Planeta twice—first in 1962 for Los enanos (later withdrawn due to a publishing contract) and definitively in 1964 for her seminal novel Las hogueras—making her the only author to win it twice. Her other notable works include El caballo rojo (1966), La madama (1969), and Rey de Gatos (1972), often exploring taboo themes like sex, homosexuality, and prostitution.
