Las batallas en el desierto

José Emilio Pacheco (1939–2014) was a Mexican poet, essayist, novelist, and short story writer, regarded as one of the major Mexican poets of the second half of the 20th century. His notable works include poetry collections like Los elementos de la noche (1963) and the famous coming-of-age novella Las batallas en el desierto (1981). He received prestigious awards such as the Cervantes Prize in 2009 and taught at universities including UNAM and the University of Maryland.
