Carol ShieldsCanadian (American-born)
Carol Shields (1935-2003) was an American-born Canadian novelist and short story writer best known for her novel The Stone Diaries (1993), which won both the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the Governor General's Literary Award—the only book to achieve this distinction. Other notable works include Larry's Party (Orange Prize winner) and Unless, and she received honors such as Companion of the Order of Canada.
