Marcos Aguinis (born January 13, 1935, in Cruz del Eje, Córdoba, Argentina) is an Argentine author, neurosurgeon, and psychoanalyst known for his novels and essays addressing themes of freedom, democracy, authoritarianism, and Jewish history. His most notable works include the bestselling novels La Cruz Invertida (1970), for which he became the first non-Spanish author to win the prestigious Planeta Prize, and Against the Inquisition (La Gesta del Marrano) (1991), praised by Mario Vargas Llosa as a "stirring song of freedom," alongside numerous awards such as Doctor Honoris Causa from Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
