About the Author
Carl Gustaf Verner von Heidenstam (1859–1940) was a Swedish poet and novelist who led the reaction against naturalism in Swedish literature, advocating for fantasy, beauty, and national themes in works inspired by his travels and Swedish history. His notable publications include the poetry collection Vallfart och vandringsår (1888) and historical novels Karolinerna (1897–98; The Charles Men) and Folkungaträdet (1905–07; The Tree of the Folkungs). He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1916 and became a member of the Swedish Academy in 1912. Read more →
