She authored diverse works including love romances in Osaka dialect, biographies, essays, and adaptations of Japanese classics like The Tale of Genji, reflecting her deep connection to Osaka culture. Tanabe received numerous accolades, including Person of Cultural Merit in 2000 and the Order of Culture in 2008, before her death in 2019.
