Brian Pinkney (born 1961) is an American illustrator and author of children's books renowned for his scratchboard and oil painting technique, often depicting African American history, folklore, and culture. Notable works include The Faithful Friend, Duke Ellington: The Piano Prince and His Orchestra, Sukey and the Mermaid, and collaborations with his wife Andrea Davis Pinkney such as In the Time of the Drums.
