Nelly Sachs (1891-1970) was a German-born Jewish poet and playwright who fled Nazi persecution to Sweden in 1940. Her work, deeply influenced by the Holocaust and her Jewish heritage, includes notable poetry collections like In den Wohnungen des Todes and the play Eli. She won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1966, shared with Shmuel Yosef Agnon, for her lyrical and dramatic writing interpreting Israel's destiny.
