Itaru Kikumura (1925-1999) was a prolific Japanese novelist known for his social-oriented storytelling, war literature, and mystery novels, winning the prestigious Akutagawa Prize in 1957 for Iōshima (Sulfur Island) and the Bungakukai Newcomer Award for Fuhō shoji (Illegal Possession) the same year.
