Mary Elizabeth Victoria Borton de Treviño (1904-2001) was an American author born in Bakersfield, California, who graduated from Stanford University and later lived much of her life in Mexico after marrying Luis Jorge Treviño in 1935. She wrote historical fiction for children, including the Newbery Medal-winning I, Juan de Pareja (1966), as well as memoirs like the bestselling My Heart Lies South detailing her life in a traditional Mexican family, and several Pollyanna sequels.Elizabeth Borton de Treviño
