About the Author

Robert Ranke Graves (1895–1985) was an English poet, novelist, and critic who authored over 140 works. He is celebrated for his World War I memoir Good-Bye to All That (1929), the historical novel I, Claudius (1934; James Tait Black Memorial Prize), and mythological study The White Goddess (1948). A veteran of the Somme who was wounded, he later resided in Deià, Majorca, and served as Oxford's Professor of Poetry (1961–1966).
