About This Book
Kevin Jared Hosein's novel is set on a sugar estate in 1940s Trinidad, following a family of indentured labourers in the last decades of British colonialism. When their landlord's family is afflicted by violence and obsession, the boundaries between the living and the dead blur in a narrative of atmospheric intensity. The novel won the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction in 2024.
About the Author
Kevin Jared Hosein is a Trinidadian novelist born in 1993. He was educated at the University of the West Indies and has worked as a science teacher. His debut novel The Beast of Kukuyo (2015) was published in Trinidad, followed by Littletown Secrets (2017). Read more →
