About the Author

Jean-Jacques Gautier (1908–1986) was a French novelist, theatre critic, and essayist who won the prestigious Prix Goncourt in 1946 for his novel Histoire d'un fait divers and was elected to the Académie française in 1972. Notable works include Les Assassins d'eau douce (1947), Le Puits aux trois vérités (1949), and Deux Fauteuils d'orchestre (1962), alongside his influential theatre criticism for Le Figaro.
