Michael Meyer is an American travel writer and Professor of English at the University of Pittsburgh who first went to China in 1995 as one of its first Peace Corps volunteers. He is best known for his China trilogy, including the acclaimed The Last Days of Old Beijing, In Manchuria, and The Road to Sleeping Dragon, and has won awards such as the Whiting Writers' Award, Guggenheim Fellowship, and multiple Lowell Thomas Awards for travel books. He divides his time between Pittsburgh and London, teaching nonfiction writing, and has authored recent works like Benjamin Franklin's Last Bet and A Dirty, Filthy Book.
