Selma Lagerlöf (1858–1940) was a Swedish novelist born in Mårbacka, Sweden, who achieved acclaim with her debut novel Gösta Berling's Saga and later works like The Wonderful Adventures of Nils. She became the first woman and first Swedish writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1909 for her idealistic and imaginative writings.
