Allen Say (born August 28, 1937, in Yokohama, Japan) is a celebrated Japanese-American author and illustrator of children's picture books who won the Caldecott Medal for Grandfather's Journey (1994) and a Caldecott Honor for The Boy of the Three-Year Nap (1988), among other awards including the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award and Oregon Book Award; his notable works also include Tree of Cranes, Tea with Milk, Drawing from Memory, and The Inker's Shadow, often drawing from his bicultural experiences between Japan and the United States.
