Gerontius

James Hamilton-Paterson (born 6 November 1941 in London) is a British poet, novelist, and non-fiction writer, known as one of the most reclusive British literary exiles, dividing his time between Austria, Italy, and the Philippines. His notable works include the Whitbread Award-winning novel Gerontius (1989), the Gerald Samper trilogy starting with Cooking with Fernet Branca (2004), and Empire of the Clouds (2010); he also received the Newdigate Prize for his poem "Disease" and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2023.James Hamilton-Paterson
