Douglas Richard Hofstadter (born February 15, 1945) is an American author, cognitive scientist, and computer scientist best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning book Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid (1979), which also received the National Book Award, and I Am a Strange Loop (2007), winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Science and Technology.
