月山 (Gassan)

Atsushi Mori (1912-1989) was a Japanese novelist renowned for his late-blooming literary career, debuting in his twenties but achieving major recognition at age 62 with his award-winning work. His most notable works include Gassan (Moon Mountain), for which he received the prestigious Akutagawa Prize in 1974—the oldest recipient at the time—and Ware Yukumono no Gotoku (Like Those Who Pass Away), which earned him the Noma Literary Prize in 1987.
