About the Author
Shyam SelvaduraiSri Lankan Canadian
Shyam Selvadurai was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1965 to a Sinhalese mother and Tamil father, emigrating to Canada with his family at age 19 amid ethnic tensions. He earned a BFA from York University and an MFA from the University of British Columbia, establishing himself as a prominent novelist whose debut Funny Boy (1994) won the Books in Canada First Novel Award and Lambda Literary Award. His works, including Cinnamon Gardens, The Hungry Ghosts, and Mansions of the Moon, often explore themes of identity, sexuality, and Sri Lankan history, earning multiple accolades and international acclaim.
