From Here to Eternity

James Ramon Jones (1921-1977) was an American novelist renowned for his World War II trilogy: From Here to Eternity (1951), which won the National Book Award and was adapted into an Academy Award-winning film; The Thin Red Line (1962); and the posthumous Whistle (1978). Drawing from his U.S. Army service, including combat on Guadalcanal where he earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star, Jones explored the human condition in war and its aftermath in works like Some Came Running (1957), establishing him as a major voice in 20th-century American literature.
