Richard Stanley Francis (1920-2010) was a British crime writer and former champion steeplechase jockey renowned for his horse racing thrillers, authoring over 40 international bestsellers including the Sid Halley series. Notable works include Whip Hand, Forfeit, and Come to Grief, for which he won three Edgar Awards for Best Novel—the only author to do so—along with the Crime Writers' Association Gold Dagger and Cartier Diamond Dagger lifetime achievement award.
