Ciaran Gerard Carson (1948–2019) was a Northern Ireland-born poet and novelist from an Irish-speaking family in Belfast, who served as Traditional Arts Officer for the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and later as Professor of English and Director of the Seamus Heaney Centre at Queen's University Belfast. His most notable works include the poetry collections The Irish for No (1987), Belfast Confetti (1989), First Language (1993), and Breaking News (2003), as well as prose like The Star Factory (1997) and his translation of Dante's Inferno.
