Nicholas MordvinoffAmerican (Russian-born)
Nicolas Mordvinoff (1911-1973) was a Russian-born American artist and illustrator best known for his collaborations with William Lipkind under the pseudonym "Nicolas and Will," including the Caldecott Medal-winning picture book Finders Keepers (1952) and the Honor book The Two Reds (1951). He studied under Fernand Léger in Paris, lived in the South Pacific, and later shifted from children's book illustration to painting and etching in the mid-1960s.
