About the Author

Margot Zemach (1931–1989) was an American illustrator and author of over 40 children's picture books, many adaptations of folk tales from around the world, particularly Yiddish and Eastern European stories, often collaborating with her husband Harve Zemach. She won the 1974 Caldecott Medal for Duffy and the Devil, received Caldecott Honors for The Judge: An Untrue Tale (1970) and It Could Always Be Worse: A Yiddish Folk Tale (1978), and was twice nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award (1980, 1988). Notable works include It Could Always Be Worse, Nail Soup, and The Little Red Hen.
