About the Author
Cristina GarcíaAmerican
Cristina García was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1958 to Cuban parents and moved to New York City at age two after Fidel Castro came to power, where she was raised in Queens and Brooklyn Heights. She worked as a journalist for Time magazine before publishing her debut novel Dreaming in Cuban (1992), a National Book Award finalist that established her reputation. Her novels, including The Agüero Sisters and Monkey Hunting, explore Cuban heritage and the diaspora; she has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, Whiting Award, and taught at universities nationwide.
