Upton Beall Sinclair Jr. (1878–1968) was an American author, muckraker, journalist, and political activist who wrote close to 100 books. He achieved fame with his novel The Jungle (1906), exposing horrific conditions in Chicago's meatpacking industry and spurring passage of the Pure Food and Drug Act and Meat Inspection Act.
