Jean Valentine (1934–2020) was an American poet renowned for her minimalist, dreamlike lyric poetry over a six-decade career spanning 14 collections. She won the National Book Award for Poetry in 2004 for Door in the Mountain: New and Collected Poems, 1965–2003, was a 2011 Pulitzer Prize finalist for Break the Glass, received the Bollingen Prize in 2017, and served as Poet Laureate of New York from 2008 to 2010.
